1.Who we are
Uplift Institute (the Uplift Institute for Global Sustainability) runs this platform for Green Diaspora Forum 2026, hosted with The Green Diaspora, EduRecon and the Global Service Trust. In this notice "we" means the Uplift Institute.
Contact: info@upliftinstitute.org, +1 858 267 3036, c/o Uplift Institute, Escondido, CA 92029, United States.
2.What we collect
- Registration details: your name, email, phone (if given), country, organisation, job title, the roles you come as and your ticket type. These come from you, or from the Zeffy or Uplift Institute checkout where you bought your ticket.
- Your profile, if you fill it in: a short bio, what you offer and need, sectors, skills, languages, the countries you are connected to and how many hours you can give.
- Your choices: whether you appear in the directory, whether you can be matched, and photo and marketing consent, with the time you chose.
- Forum activity: sessions you save, working groups and site visits you join, introductions, meetings you book, notes you post on a group board, and the time you were checked in at the door or onto a bus.
- Pledges: what you pledge, its progress and due date, and any evidence you upload to show it was delivered.
- Technical data needed to run the service: sign-in records, and short-lived counters that slow down repeated attempts (they use your email or network address and expire within minutes).
3.How we use it, and why
- To run the forum you registered for: your account, agenda, groups, site visits, meetings, badge and check-in. We do this because you asked to take part.
- To introduce you to people and list you in the directory, only if you turn those on. You can turn them off at any time.
- To follow up pledges after the forum (reminders before a due date and progress updates) and to report the forum’s impact. Reports only ever show totals.
- To keep the platform safe and working: preventing abuse, keeping a record of changes staff make, and fixing problems.
- To send forum news, only if you agree to marketing.
4.Who can see it
- Your email address and phone number are never shown to other participants.
- Other participants see your profile only if you turn the directory on, and only people you are introduced to see your card through an introduction.
- Pledges are private unless you choose to share them with participants or publicly. The public impact page shows totals only, and any group of fewer than five pledges is merged into "Other" so no one can be identified.
- Forum staff see what their role needs: for example the door team sees names and tickets, and country leads see only their countries. Partner organisations see their own people and the pledges made in their name.
- People under 18 are never listed in the directory, never matched, and their pledges are never public.
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
5.Services that help us run the platform
We use a small number of providers, each only for its part of the service and under its own data-protection terms:
- Vercel (United States) hosts the website and app.
- Supabase stores the database, sign-in and private files, in the European Union (Ireland).
- Upstash provides the short-lived counters that slow down repeated attempts.
- Resend sends sign-in, reminder and forum emails.
- Zeffy and the Uplift Institute checkout sell tickets; their own privacy notices apply to payments. We receive your registration details from them, never your card details.
- If AI-written introductions are switched on, Anthropic writes the one-sentence reason two people should meet. It receives only roles, sectors and the "offers" and "needs" text, never names, contact details, money amounts or evidence, and staff review every sentence before it is sent.
6.International transfers
The forum brings together people from many countries, so your information may be handled outside the country you live in, including in the United States and the European Union. We only use providers that protect data to recognised standards.
7.How long we keep it
We keep forum records for up to 3 years after the forum, so pledges can be followed up and impact reported, then remove or anonymise the personal details. Totals stay correct because anonymised pledges still count.
If you ask us to remove your data sooner, we anonymise your record straight away unless the law requires us to keep something.
8.Your choices and rights
- Change your directory, matching, photo and marketing choices at any time from your profile.
- Ask to see, correct, download or remove your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing info@upliftinstitute.org. We reply within 30 days.
- If you are unhappy with how we handled your data, you can complain to the data-protection authority where you live.
9.Young people
Participants under 18 take part with a parent or guardian’s knowledge. Their profiles are never listed or matched, and their pledges are never shown publicly.
11.Security
Access rules for every role are enforced by the database itself, so a mistake on a screen cannot reveal someone else’s record. Evidence files are private and opened only through short-lived links. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email, repeated attempts are slowed down, and every change staff make is logged.
12.Changes to this notice
We will post any changes here and update the date below. If a change matters for how we use your data, we will tell you by email. Effective 9 October 2026.
