Terms of use

The rules for using the Green Diaspora Forum platform, in plain language.

1.About these terms

This platform supports Green Diaspora Forum 2026, run by the Uplift Institute. By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these terms and to our privacy notice. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2.Your account

  • Accounts are for people registered for the forum, partner organisations and the forum team. Use your own account and give accurate details.
  • You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to your email private: you are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
  • If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to you taking part.

3.Using the platform well

  • Be respectful and honest in everything you post, including your profile, group boards and pledges.
  • Use contact you make here for the forum’s purpose. Do not send unsolicited marketing, collect other people’s details, or share them outside the forum without their permission.
  • Do not post anything unlawful, harmful, misleading or that belongs to someone else without permission.
  • Do not try to get into accounts or data that are not yours, disrupt the service, or use automated tools to copy it.

4.What you post

You keep ownership of what you post: your profile, notes, pilot ideas and evidence. You give us permission to store and show it to the people it is meant for (for example your working group, the people you are introduced to, or the public if you make a pledge public) for as long as it stays on the platform.

We may remove content that breaks these terms.

5.Pledges

A pledge is a public statement of intent, not a contract. If you and the recipient want it to be binding, sign a separate written agreement.

Each pledge gets a reference number. We send reminders before the due date and the forum team follows progress. A pledge counts as delivered only after staff review the evidence you provide. Pledge totals on the impact pages are reported in good faith from what pledgers record.

6.Introductions, meetings and site visits

  • Introductions are suggestions based on what people say they offer and need. We do not check anyone’s background or business, so use your own judgement before making any agreement.
  • Site visits have limited seats and follow the instructions given by the forum team and the transport provider on the day.

7.Tickets and payments

Tickets are sold through Zeffy (for Belize residents and businesses) and the Uplift Institute checkout (for everyone else). Their terms, including refunds, apply to your purchase. The hotel room block is booked directly with Fort George Hotel and Spa.

8.The service

  • We work hard to keep the platform available and accurate, but it is provided as it is and may sometimes be unavailable or change, especially around forum days.
  • The programme, rooms and times may change. The platform always shows the latest version.
  • Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

9.Responsibility

To the extent the law allows, the Uplift Institute is not liable for indirect losses, for agreements made between participants, or for whether a pledge is delivered. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited by law.

10.Suspending or closing an account

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people at risk. You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing info@upliftinstitute.org; we then anonymise your details as described in the privacy notice.

11.Changes and governing law

We may update these terms and will post changes here with a new date. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States. Effective 9 October 2026.
